Annotation: The article examines the role of institutionalization in the development of strategic partnership between the Republic of Korea and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the period 1990–2025. Based on a substantive analysis of key documents, multilateral formats, and specialized institutions, the article examines the logic, pace, and directions of institutional convergence between the parties. Particular attention is paid to the economic architecture of cooperation, as well as the evolution of action plans and mechanisms for dialogue and interaction. It is shown that the institutional basis of the partnership is based on the historical and conceptual proximity of development models, as well as on the complementarity of the economies of the parties. In a comparative perspective with other key ASEAN partners – Japan and China – the specificity of the Korean model of institutionalization of bilateral relations is revealed. It is concluded that the consistent complication and expansion of formal cooperation mechanisms has allowed the Republic of Korea to move from sectoral dialogue to strategic and then comprehensive strategic partnership in the shortest possible time.
