Intangible Cultural Heritage of Ethnic Minorities in China and Vietnam: Managing Traditions and Traditions of Management

Annotation: The article is devoted to a comparative analysis of measures to preserve and protect the intangible cultural heritage of ethnic minorities in the PRC and the SRV. These two states are close geographically, culturally, and ideologically; moreover, both China and Vietnam are multinational states. Both countries actively cooperate with UNESCO within the framework of the 2003 Convention. The authors conclude that China and Vietnam are guided by similar principles when selecting sites for inclusion in their National Heritage Lists and the UNESCO list. These factors include the development of the tourism potential of areas inhabited by ethnic minorities, the representation of each ethnic group on the National List, and the formation of a desired image of an ethnic group through association with a particular cultural practice.
