Annotation: The article examines the practice of dual geographical naming in Australia. It explores the historical background of this phenomenon, including colonization and assimilation policies that led to the decline of Indigenous languages. Special attention is given to the contemporary reconciliation process, within which traditional Aboriginal place names are being restored and officially recognized. The paper identifies key challenges associated with dual naming, such as language extinction, difficulties in reconstructing original toponyms, inconsistency in spelling systems, pronunciation issues, and varying public attitudes toward Indigenous names.
