Military and political situation in South-East Asia in context of regional strategic game
ЮГО-ВОСТОЧНАЯ АЗИЯ: АКТУАЛЬНЫЕ ПРОБЛЕМЫ РАЗВИТИЯ, 2012, №19, 5-14
Annotation: The military and political situation in South-East Asia is turning into one of the main sources of menace to stability in the Asia-Pacific and the world as a whole. It is to Asia-Pacific that the “center of gravity” of a new “big game” which started after the “cold war” is being moved. Here the main actors of today are the US, China, Japan and India. Some analysts see the situation in the region as similar to the one before World War I with growing competition between the US (in place of the Great Britain) and China (in place of Kaiser Germany). The danger of escalation of tension leads to fragmentation of integration in the Asia –Pacific. The author specially notes the plan of “Trans-Pacific Partnership” to unite the US leading allies on the American continent and in the East Asia on anti-Chinese stand. It is stressed that instability is moving closer to the Russian borders, with the role of it in the region being limited to its modest economic participation.
