Russia's Interests in Southeast Asia

Annotation: Dr. A.A.Rogozhin in his paper «Russia's Interests in Southeast Asia» states that for the last twenty years the attention given to Southeast Asia has noticeably decreased, despite its conclusive specificity and even uniqueness. In his opinion, for Russia it is important to support the idea of "ASEAN Regional Community" and ignore another concept - "East Asia/ASEAN+3" (where China, the USA and Japan initially have much stronger positions) to save its special place in Southeast Asia. Thus it is necessary to give to the ASEAN direction of Russian foreign policy more precise configuration considering sub-regional specificity of the member-countries. The author specifies traditional and new problems of economic cooperation development between Russia and Southeast Asian countries.
