Indonesia in 2011 – intensification of political struggle

Annotation: Dr. A.Y.Drugov in his paper Indonesia in 2011 - intensification of political struggle points out that the gap between groups of political elite has widened in anticipation of parliamentary and presidential elections due in 2014. Attacks have been intensified against the Presidential Party of Democrats and especially against the head of the state himself. Together with President S.B. Yudhoyono's narrow political base this lessens effectiveness of executive power, which in turn leads to radicalization of the Islamists and growing separatism, particularly in Papua. The author also dwells on the question of Indonesia's role in ASEAN, its relations with Russia, China, the US, South Korea.
