Impact of the internal political crisis in Thailand on the country's macroeconomic indicators
ЮГО-ВОСТОЧНАЯ АЗИЯ: АКТУАЛЬНЫЕ ПРОБЛЕМЫ РАЗВИТИЯ, 2011, №17, 277-286
Annotation: Molchanov S. analyses how the lingering Thai political crisis has influenced the country's economy. The research is based on the comparison of macroeconomic indicators of Thailand and four Southeast Asian countries - Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and Philippines in the period from 1995 to 2010. By applying comparative and correlation methods the author comes to the following conclusions. First, the crisis did not affect greatly the GDP growth rates, gross national savings and gross government deficit. Second, the country's investment attractiveness has decreased and consequently the economy has lost large foreign investments. Third, Thai investors were forced to seek an application for their capital abroad. The analysis of the country's macroeconomic indicators reveals high resistance of the economy in the face of political instability.
