Annotation: E.M.Astafyeva in her work The new development in national classification of the Singapore's citizens describes in brief the origin and evolution of a unique Singaporean nation. One of the innovations to the national classification system gives the persons of dual ethnic origin the right to have the so called double-barreled nation. The author analyses the importance of belonging to a certain ethnic group for self-realization in some fields of domestic social policy. She also gives the official viewpoints of government sources as well as that of the opposition on the problem.
