Annotation: Dr. E.P. Zakaznikova dwells on some aspects of Australia's foreign policy, stating that it is based on the assumption that geostrategic, geopolitical and geo-economic centre will move from Europe to Asia. On this basis Australia is reconsidering its relations with the countries of Asia-Pacific region to make them more effective. Along with Japan, China and India of major importance for the country is South-East Asia and first of all Indonesia. Australia's military cooperation with the US as its main ally has not only intensified but entered the new stage when it was agreed to set up American military base on Australian soil and on Cocos Islands in Indian Ocean under the sovereignty of Australia. The Russian Federation Foreign Minister Mr. Lavrov during his tour to East Asia discussed this problem with the Foreign and Defense Ministers of Australia.
