Annotation: The researcher studies the early period of modern Vietnamese visual arts making, including painting, sculpture, architecture, that period covering the first half of the 19th century. He examines in detail works of the first Vietnamese painters and artistic schools that existed at the time in the country. The author pays special attention to establishing and activities of the Indochina High School of Fine Arts, where the first generation of the national visual artists was educated.
