Annotation: Dr. Alexander Popov in his paper offers a wide view of the East Java' history and today. He stresses that the Eastern part of Java is one of the oldest habitats of prehistoric man on earth. The ancient pithecanthropus lived here at least a million years ago and was called a Java man. Later the East Java was a centre of many medieval states including the Empire of Majapahit with the legendary figure of Gajah Mada who united under the authority of his state the territory of modern Indonesia. Now the East Java is one of the most populated provinces of Indonesia with the total population of 37.5 millions of people.
