Buddhist sangha in Cambodia at the turn of the century: the process of rebirth
ЮГО-ВОСТОЧНАЯ АЗИЯ: АКТУАЛЬНЫЕ ПРОБЛЕМЫ РАЗВИТИЯ, 2010, №15, 267-286
Annotation: Dr. N.N. Bektimirova's paper considers the complex and contradictory process of the revival of Buddhist sangha in Cambodia, which started in the early 1990s. The article further shows that this renaissance is happening against the background of large-scale socio-political and economic reforms that are taking root in Khmer society. Using interview and press materials collected during extensive fieldwork in Cambodia the author examines various issues, such as the restoration of the temple economy, cadre renewal among monks, religious education and intellectual potential, ethics and the level of discipline within the Buddhist sangha.
