Indonesia in 2012: events and trends

Annotation: The paper indicates that differences and conflicts of interests in Indonesian elite are still damaging efficiency of President Soesilo Bambang Yudhoyono government as well as efficiency of its measures aimed at confronting Islamist extremism. Nevertheless the government was more active in eradicating corruption, including one in the upper power structures. The economic development was sufficiently favorable as was in 2011. The author touches upon a large-scale program of re-armament of the Indonesian Armed Forces as well as Indonesia’s relations with ASEAN countries, Russia, China, the USA, and Australia, Indonesia’s activity in the normalization of the situation in the South-China Sea, and its stand on the events in Syria.
