Policy towards Catholics under the emperor Tu Duk (1848-1883) in Vietnam

Annotation: The paper based on the materials of the chronicles of Dai Nam Thuk Luk shows the evolution of anthi-Catholic policy of the late Nguyens (Tu Duk and his successors) as a part of the Vietnamese resistance to the French aggression. Acceptance by the Vietnamese authorities of the Catholicism as an official religion was the inevitable consequence of the defeat of the dynasty and the patriotic forces as a whole and the establishment of the French rule in Vietnam in the late 19th century.
