Annotation: The paper is dedicated to the specific features of development of one of Indonesia’s less studied regions - South-East Sulawesi. Being one of the richest regions of the country in minerals, wood and sea resources the South-East Sulawesi suffers from a poor infrastructure, lack of capital and often of human resources. The future of the province’s economy is decisively connected with the development of the nickel ore processing industry and the province could be regarded as the nickel capital of Indonesia.
