Annotation: The article deals with the main aspects of the political biography and views of Sir John McEwen - one of the greatest Australian politicians - the builders of the welfare state in the country. Although the basic ideas of his policy were abandoned many years ago, a lot of observers still see him as “a political giant” in Australian history of the 20th century.
