ЮГО-ВОСТОЧНАЯ АЗИЯ: АКТУАЛЬНЫЕ ПРОБЛЕМЫ РАЗВИТИЯ, 2012, №19, 146-161
Annotation: President Suharto's resignation and the fall of the New Order regime upset the political status quo in Indonesia. The armed forces, that had devotedly tried to eradicate any significant opposition to the government, had to loosen the grip, which took a toll on maintaining security in the country. Many people, radicals included, saw the change of the political climate as a chance for themselves. Some of them belonged to Jemaah Islamiyah, which was formed in the 1990s and turned into the nucleus of terrorist underground in Indonesia. The author of the article puts emphasis on different aspects of Jemaah Islamiyah's activities, analyzing its structural organization, financial background as well as measures taken by the Indonesian authorities to fight terrorism.
