Traditional Vietnamese Clothing: the Sphere of Usage and Historical context (late 20th - beginning of the 21st century)

Annotation: This paper deals with the use of traditional clothing in modern Vietnamese society. The evolution of the national costume and the changes in views on the subject are being analyzed in the context of some important socio-cultural processes that took place in Vietnam. Though by the late 20th - beginning of the 21st century European style clothing has replaced Vietnamese national costume in everyday life, it hasn’t vanished completely. Now, on the contrary, it arouses much interest. Traditional costume continues its existence not only as the symbol of the material culture of Vietnam, but also plays an important role in the social life of modern Vietnamese people.
