Annotation: The paper observes the second phase of Indian foreign policy strategy "Look East”. It was initiated by prime-minister of India N. Rao in 1991. The author analyses basic specific features and problems of socio-economic, political and strategic relations between India and ASEAN countries, stressing their significance in strengthening South-East Asia’s security. It is stressed these relations are a jump-board for India’s advancement to the Asia-Pacific. Great attention is also paid to interests of India in SEA, its concrete steps and mechanisms in the sphere of security. The author discusses Indian Navy build up, the influence of “the Chinese factor”, and the political-strategic shifts in the region as a result of the USA “Pacific century of America” doctrine of 2011.
