Thailand: the treating of natural disaster
ЮГО-ВОСТОЧНАЯ АЗИЯ: АКТУАЛЬНЫЕ ПРОБЛЕМЫ РАЗВИТИЯ, 2012, №18, 186-193
Annotation: The article analyses the consequences of flooding in Thailand, the worst in at least five decades, which economic damage the World Bank ranks as the world's fourth costliest disaster. In 2011 Thailand GDP growth declined by 1-2% due to flooding. The overall losses are estimated to be $ 1.4 bn. The biggest damages and losses were in the manufacturing sector and first of all in many high-tech companies with impact not only on Thailand but on global markets as well. To overcome the consequences of flooding the country will have to work two years or more and it will require huge investments – public and private and restoration of confidence of foreign companies in government's ability to cope with risks of natural disasters. This time Thailand managed to cope with this crisis but could the country do it another time taking into consideration the risks of flooding due to climate change?
