Annotation: The article reviewed the complicated nature of Myanmar's interactions with the United Nations. Burma joined the UN soon after winning independence in 1948. U Thant, a Burmese national, was the UN Secretary General (UNSG) from 1961 to 1971. After 1988 at the core of Myanmar's relations with the UN have stood the good offices role of the UN and interactions with the UN Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR), especially with its special rapporteur.
