Annotation: The article analyzed an emergence of the political vacuum in ASEAN caused by the absence of Indonesia with its former role of the respected regional leader, achievements of the domestic economic development and the breakthrough into the structures of Asia-Pacific and international integration -all these developments have strengthened Vietnam's ability to play a major role in Southeast Asian geopolitics.
