Riemke in Traditional Khmer Theatre
ЮГО-ВОСТОЧНАЯ АЗИЯ: АКТУАЛЬНЫЕ ПРОБЛЕМЫ РАЗВИТИЯ, 2017, №34, 265-275
Annotation: The latest publication of Riemke, a Khmer version of ancient Indian Ramayana, is a record of the story by an illiterate folk taleteller named Phka Soy. The text was meant to be recited in one of the forms of traditional Khmer theatre – lokhaon khaol in which all parts were performed be men. Phka Soy’s Riemke is one more, besides those previously known, version of the Khmer legend, which testifies to the fact of the existence of an advanced tradition of both oral and theatrical performance of Riemke, as well as to the primary role of stage performances in spreading this plot allover Cambodia.
Keywords: version of Ramayana, Riemke, Khmer culture, traditional theatre, khaol, folk taleteller
