The situation of the Chinese minority in Indonesia in the light of Indonesian-Chinese relations

Annotation: The paper examines the problems of the Chinese minority in Indonesia, its role and its development features in the socio-economic structure of the country. Particular attention is paid to mitigating anti-Chinese sentiments in the 2000s compared with the strengthening and interweaving of anti-Chinese movements with anti-Christian sentiments in the 1990s. The author states that despite the significant influence of the Chinese diaspora in the Indonesian economy, it does not hinder the growth of Muslim entrepreneurship. The article introduces results of the governor election with allowed to take the post of governor of Jakarta to an ethnic Chinese and a Christian Basuki «Ahok» Tjahaja Purnama. The results of the gubernatorial elections are analyzed, which enabled the ethnic Chinese and Christian Basuki Chakhaya Purnam "Ahoku" to become governor of Jakarta. The consequences of the trial regarding Ahok and the results of the new gubernatorial elections of 2017 are considered.
