Annotation: Bilateral relations with the USA have always been one of Cambodia's foreign policy priorities. Under B.Obama's administration they were particularly strengthened. But with the arrival of D.Trump's administration tensions have surfaced in Cambodia-USA relations. Cambodia unilaterally cancelled joint military exercises «Angkor Sentinel». Prime Minister Hun Sen's rhetoric took on a distinctly anti-American tone. In addition, Cambodia refused to accept Khmer citizens deported from the USA. The emergence of anti-Americanism in Cambodia's foreign policy can be traced to a host of internal and external factors. Chief among them is the imminence of a new electoral cycle.

Keywords: Cambodia, USA, bilateral relations, financial debt, anti-American rhetoric, joint military exercises, repatriation
