Indonesia’s Reaction to the Changes in the USA

Annotation: In Indonesia election of D. Trump as the USA President was met with mixed feelings. His motto “America First” might be a kind of pledge that Washington will refrain from implanting new regimes in other countries under pretext of democratization. But at the same time there were some worries that the USA will no more counterbalance China in the Southeast Asia region, while Trump’s economic policy would result in cutting the inflow of USA investments and imports. Under this situation the predominant opinion in Indonesia is that the country has to diversify its political and economic ties , to create more favorable investment climate, and to rise its defense potential, especially on the seas. Under these situation new favorable opportunities for Russia-Indonesia relations open up.
