Discourse on the problem of SCS in the context of Vietnamese-Chinese relations and the actual state of affairs

Annotation: Understanding the disputes in the South China Sea (the SCS) seems to be problematic without addressing institutional political discourse formed by the government and the mass media. This article intends to provide in-depth coverage of the official rhetoric and policy of Vietnam and China. The main goal – comparative analysis of “discourse and action” of Hanoi and Beijing concerning the SCS from the moment of escalation of tensions (2009) till nowadays. The article also comes up with the key positions of extra-regional actors that have an impact on discourse construction as well as ASEAN in order to look at the whole picture.
