Trends of political development of Cambodia in 2019

Annotation: This article considers the three main trends that overwhelmingly determined the political development of Cambodia in 2019. Firstly, Cambodia’s political development took place amidst steady economic growth and heightened attention of the authorities towards the social sphere. Secondly, the influence of external factors, most notably, relations with China and the EU, on internal politics was felt more strongly than usual. Thirdly, a high degree of confrontation persisted between the ruling CPP and opposition leaders who had been forcibly exiled and remained outside of the country.
