ASEAN and Territorial Disputes in the South-China Sea

Annotation: The article analyzes the role and efforts of ASEAN in peaceful solution of the territorial conflict in the South-China Sea. It reveals some particularities and special aspects of the policy and political practice of this group of small and medium countries of SEA in the arising triangle of China-ASEAN-USA with its growing competition of the two superpowers for the influence in the region and for the control over the richest resources and the most important sea communication routs. The author pays special attention to the diplomatic struggle over the draft Code of conduct of the parties in the SCS prepared by Indonesia and adopted in ASEAN.
