Annotation: The author tells of the Chinese first visits to the New Zealand and of their impressions of the country, of the books and magazines’ publications in Chinese, including stories about hard life of the settlers from China who came there in time of the “gold-rash”. In the late 19th - early 20th century the Chinese immigrants faced discrimination, the policy of the “White New Zealand”. The situation started to change after World War II. In 2002 the New Zealand government officially brought the apologies for the injustice made toward the Chinese earlier. Nowadays the Chinese community is one of the most influential ethnic groups in the New Zealand.
