Myanmar in 2016: the new realities under a democratic government

Annotation: The article examines the situation in the corridors of power after the parliamentary and presidential elections 2015−2016. The author calls it “uncomfortable coexistence” of two forces in Parliament – lawmakers of the NLD and the military faction, which has 25% of seats reserved before the elections. The article also analyzes the characteristics of bilateral relations between the US and Myanmar under the administration of President Obama and how the victory of D. Trump in the US presidential elections could affect it.
